With the current investigation regarding bacteria & antibiotic agents, it's easy to think of bacteria as only pathogenic or problematic. However, it is important to maintain an awareness of the impact of bacteria . . .and thus this week's question: how do bacteria impact our individual lives and how do they impact our ecological environment?
Note: When selecting the link below, you can listen to several of the songs. The focus here is on 'Decomposers'.

There are two kinds of bacteria: good and bad. The good kind can help you fight a cold; the bad kind can create a cold, in humans. In the environment, bacteria are considered to be scavengers or decomposers who help in keeping the environment clean by eating waste. This helps maintain the ecological cycle. They are one of the most important parts of the ecological cycle.
ReplyDeleteBacteria come in two forms, good and bad (to put it simply). The good kind cleans its environment so-to-speak and it helps the area remain healthy. The bad kind does the exact opposite of this and creates the uncleanliness the good bacteria helps get rid of. This impacts our ecological system because without them, life would sees to exist.
ReplyDeleteThere are two different kinds of bacteria, the good kind and the bad kind. The good kind helps to keep the environment clean and to kill the bad kind of bacteria. The bad bacteria harms the environment and has does the opposite of the good one, leaving the good one to clean up its effects. With this cycle of Bacteria it helps to keep our ecological environment clean and healthy.
ReplyDeleteBacteria can be a great thing for you digestive system and a bad thing for the owner's of Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants. Good bacteria is great because it helps decompose dead animal carcasses, help animals digest foods, help plants absorb nutrients and it makes yogurt. Bad bacteria is not so good because it can cause diseases in plants, humans to get infections and can spread to animals that when not cooked, can spread to humans. Bacteria impacts our ecological environment because it helps plants absorb nutrients.
ReplyDeleteAs many have said, bacteria can do anything to humans from making them sick to helping them digest food. Also, bacteria are decomposers, which is to say that they help make things decompose. This process keeps the environment in check. Lastly, bacteria can do some pretty nasty things to food. Salmonella, for instance.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what people have said about "good" and "bad" bacteria. Meaning that bacteria can be beneficial in certain forms and instances, but it can also harm the human body and environment. When bacteria comes to mind the first thing I think of is something unsanitary, but that is a misconception. With much talk about global warming, biodegradable materials and composts are becoming more common making bacteria more proactive. Bacteria is very important when it comes to decomposing things in our environment.
ReplyDeleteBacteria comes in two different forms, good or bad. Bacteria is commonly referred to as bad, nasty, unhealthy, and many other degrading things. But it does help decompose objects. They help get rid of dead things. They are dangerous though, as there are many cases which bacteria has killed people. Bacteria might not be all bad, but it is also not entirely a good thing.
ReplyDeleteAs everyone has previously said: bacteria comes in two forms, good and bad. There is bacteria that helps you and bacteria that does not help you (to put it nicely). Bacteria (in a good form) is used to help you fight off sicknesses and it is basically what keeps you up and running. While on the other hand bad bacteria can cause you to become ill. Most bacterial viruses are easy to cure with antibiotics which if you look at the word closely basically says anti-bacteria. The same goes for the environment. There are types of bacteria that help it grow and thrive and types that make it unhappy (i.e. die). I agree with the fact that everyone has been saying that bacteria is beneficial in some cases while very harmful in others.
ReplyDeleteJust like everybody else has said, bacteria can be good and bad. The bad kind can make you very sick or make your food inedible. Most people think that bacteria only does bad things, but it can also do great things. The good kind can help to clean the the environment. Bacteria kind of contradicts itself in the way that it can make you sick then help you to get better.
ReplyDeleteDepending on the environment there are healthy bacterias and dangerous bacterias. One example of bacterias that affect an individual is the bacteria that is contained inside ones stomach. The bacteria like Bifidobacterium infants, inside your stomach allows you to break down foods and allow you to ingest the nutrients. Also there are many, many, many kinds of bacteria that can affect an environment. There are some kinds of bacteria that are in water that can be very harmful. Bacterias such as giardia, salmonella, and Escherichia coli O104:H4 are all extremely harmful.
ReplyDeleteBacteria can be beneficial and pathogenic depending on the type. The benefits of some bacteria include helping provide nutrients that plants and animals need to survive as well as decomposition. Many organisms depend on bacteria to distribute nutrients and help the decomposition process of many organisms. However, bacteria can also be harmful to the environment and the organisms in that habitat. This type of bacteria is called pathogenic. One of the harmful things it does is carry and inflict disease which harms the environment as well as its inhabitants. Bacteria, although microscopic, impacts our lives greatly.
ReplyDeleteBacteria surrounds us 24/7 times 52 and there are some that are good and others that are bad because of this there our many precautions that we need to take that can be a negative consequence to the environment.
ReplyDeleteBacteria affects nature and humans every single second of the day. Bacteria has both a negative and positive affect on everything. A good thing about bacteria is it can help things survive, but a bad thing about bacteria is that it can cause harm. Decomposition helps the environment because it makes soil which is rich and helps plants grow.
ReplyDeleteBacteria, as other people said can be good or bad. One way it impacts our individual life is our health. Some types of bacteria need to be present in our bodies to keep healthy, other types make us sick. One way it impacts our ecological environment is that it helps in the decay of dead plants and animals.
ReplyDeleteBacteria are able to help and destroy you. A double edged sword, some of these bacteria are able to cure you of diseases and keeps your body running. On the other hand they may cause you demise with diseases such as swine flew. Personally, I feel bacteria are more helpful then they are deadly because they give us cures to diseases that might kill us otherwise, only some time may you catch a flue and most of the time that ends in not even a week.
ReplyDeleteActually baccteria is able to help you in good and bad ways. There are some bactria in your body that will mess your body up such as colds and disease and then their are bacteria in your body in which helps you fight colds and disease and those are the good types of bacteria. In some ways bacteria is more good than it is bad because with some people it helps your body more than it hurts your body
ReplyDeleteBacteria can help your body or it can kill our body. For an example Bacteria can help fight a cold and eventually get rid of it or it can cause a cold and help it spread through your body. Bacteria can get into open cuts or wounds which can cause it to get infected and may spread to something more serious. Some bacteria can help improve the environment because it can decompose that will improve the soil.
ReplyDeleteRight off the bat the 85 percent of bacteria are helpful rather than harmful. In fact we would not live if we didn’t have bacteria in our world today. Right now in your stomach you have bacteria helping digesting your food. Society as burned a picture in everybody’s head that bacteria is a dangerous and how febreeze or hand sanitizer will get rid of it. But really most bacteria is beneficial. For example in blue cheese the blue is mold enhancing the taste. It also helps the ecological system by cleaning out waste, without them we would cease to exist.
ReplyDeleteBacteria impacts lots of peoples lives but not everybody. There are some people who are extremely worried about it and others not so much. After doing are lab I now will probably be more mindful of the places bacteria can be. Which is pretty much everywhere. You also may not think that it plays a role in the ecological environment but it does and quite a big one. In fact if we had no bacteria we wouldn't have many simple things that we see as just given.
ReplyDeleteBacteria is very complex, some bacteria is "good" and some is "bad". The good type of bacteria commonly helps "clean" the environment and can also often help fish colds. But there is also bad types of bacteria which usually causes one to get a cold.
ReplyDeleteA very true thing about everything is in different varieties it can be either very helpful and/or harmful. Even deadly diseases in small doses, can prevent deadly diseases. Also, harmful bacteria can help your immune system strengthen, even if it does this trying to infect you.
ReplyDeleteBacteria is in all living things; it comes in many different forms, some are good and others bad. Some bacteria kill diseases while others cause them. Medicine that is used to cure diseases has good bacteria in it which helps fight off the germs/ bad bacteria. In our ecosystem bacteria is essential because it decomposes organic matter into minerals.
ReplyDeleteBacteria is a single-celled organism that lives all around us and inside of us. Although often regarded as a negative part of our lives, bacteria is also a vital part of our existence. Good bacteria, such as those found in yogurt, enable us to digest our food, which helps our bodies to function effectively and properly. On the other hand, bacteria can also affect our bodies in negative ways, such as causing various diseases, such as the stomach flu and the common tooth decay. Additionally, bacteria is also a crucial part of our ecological environment, because it decomposes organic matter into minerals, enriching our soil, and making our crops all the more beneficial.
ReplyDeleteBacteria has always and will always play a crucial role in our society. It has been on Earth for as long as any incarnation of the human has ever been alive, and therefore, we will never remember a time when we didn't live in a world without bacteria. This single-celled, yet ultimately fascinating organism has been the study of thousands of scientists for hundreds of years. We need to know the extent of bacteria, of course, to know when it can be bad for a person and when it can be beneficial. In our everyday ecological environment, bacteria can cause disease, create mutations, or even cause a species to go extinct. The fact remains: because bacteria are so ubiquitous, we must learn about bacteria to inform our own lives
ReplyDeleteBacteria can be both good and bad. It can help us digest foods that would be impossible to digest otherwise. Bacteria such as E. Coli though can be very detrimental to our health. The E. Coli will make one very sick and have to stay in the hospital or at home. It is certain though that without bacteria we would not be able to survive. Therefore we must be thankful that bacteria does exist in our lives.
ReplyDeleteThere are both good and bad bacteria. There are some bacteria like E. Coli which live in the intestates of animals and help them digest. Bacteria also helps plants absorb nutrients into their roots. There are some bacteria that also help clean up oil spills. There are very many beneficial kinds of bacteria.
ReplyDeleteBacteria mainly fit into two categories, helpful and harmful. The harmful kind can cause you to have disease and make you sick. The helpful kind of bacteria can actually do the opposite, and help make you better when you are sick. They also help your digestive system to absorb nutrients better.
ReplyDeleteThere are manny different kinds of bacteria that are either harmful or helpful. Some kinds of bacteria help us digest food. Those are the good kind of bacteria. Other can cause sickness. Those are the bad kinds of bacteria.
ReplyDeleteWhen people talk about bacteria in general, they're usually talking about something bad like germs, things that can make us sick, or other harmful bacteria. But most cases in science, bacteria is being talked about as helpful against germs. It can help ones digestive system, be in such foods as yogurt, or it can even keep you from getting sick.
ReplyDeleteBacteria is all around us and even in our bodies. There are good bacteria and bad bacteria. Good bacteria can fight off bad bacteria and prevent illnesses. They fix atmospheric nitrogen so that plants can use it. It also fixes atmospheric carbon and helps the carbon levels in our atmosphere stay low. Bad bacteria can cause illnesses and diseases.
ReplyDeleteBacteria has the talent of surviving in extreme conditions, so no matter where we are, we are surrounded by bacteria. Certain kinds of bacteria can cause disease, and other kinds of bacteria can prevent disease. During our brief study of bacteria in seventh grade, I remember there being different names for beneficial bacteria and detrimental bacteria. I am not sure how bacteria can impact our ecological environment, but I can deduce that bacteria has the potential to kill an entire species.
ReplyDeleteBacteria is everywhere. It can help us or harm us, depending on the bacteria. Bacteria can help us digest foods that we wouldn't be able to if we didn't have bacteria, and it makes us healthy and fights disease. Yet the same thing that helps us so much can also cause disease.
ReplyDeleteBacteria has a huge impact on out lives and bacteria. There are two main forms of bacteria. One kind of bacteria helps to fight diseases and the other kind gives you diseases. Its impact on the environment goes beyond that though. It helps to decompose waste and it also fixes the atmospheric nitrogen. This process is called nitrogen fixation. Overall bacteria plays a huge roll in our lives and in our environment.
ReplyDeleteI don't see why everyone thinks bacteria can be "bad".
ReplyDeleteBacteria and other sources of life are mostly good: it's just that some organisms are not immune to bacteria's destructive powers. Or perhaps the bacteria is not compatible with an organism, but it is wrong to deem bacteria as "bad" resulting from common ailments. An example of bacteria being helpful can be found in frozen yogurt. It's filled to the brim with live active cultures (bacterii) that the body actually needs. Also, when bacteria forms around rotten foods, they are helping us to avoid eating those foods. We actually could not live without our fun bacteria buddies, even if when we're not immune they could end our lives as well!
Bacteria can grow anywhere. They can survive without many resources. Bacteria is like a paradox, it can help or harm us. It can cause sicknesses or diseases but it can also help cure diseases. Bacteria can also help decompose unneeded things. Bacteria is something different.
ReplyDeleteI think that bacteria affects us in many ways because they are everywhere around us. Like many of us mentioned, there are good and bad bacteria. The good bacteria for example helps us kill viruses and anything that causes us harm. There is also the bad kind of bacteria that causes us harm and gives us viruses, diseases. Bacteria also id a major part f our environment. It acts as a decomposer in the food cycle. As decomposers, they are the organisms mostly found in the ground that consume dead organisms by breaking them down into organic material that they can consume and placing back into the earth for nutrients.
ReplyDeleteBacteria are everywhere. They are in the air, in the water and in the foods we eat. They are even in us! In fact, there are more bacteria in a human body than there are human cell. Many of these bacteria are harmful. Some, including e-coli which can make you very sick. An infection of certain bacteria can occasionally lead to kidney failure and hemorrhagic diarrhea. Other bacteria, such as the ones found in yogurt or the ones used to make cheese can be healthy and beneficial to the human body. Bacteria affects the environment because it helps keep our environment clean and protects the air we breathe. Without bacteria, life forms would not exist and the world would be very different.
ReplyDeleteBacteria in our body digest most of the food that we can't. Without bacteria there would be no cheese! Can you imagine life without cheese!?!? I sure can't! On the flipside, however, bacteria do in fact cause many diseases. The fact remains that there are many different types of bacteria, some which kill us, and some we can't live without.
ReplyDeleteBacteria is everywhere doing good and bad. One good thing it does is decompose food in our bodies that we cannot handle. One bad thing it does is help the spread of sickness such as the common cold. Bacteria is everywhere either helping or not helping the environment.
ReplyDeleteBacteria is everywhere and it helps us and our amune system get stronger. Also sertin bacterias can help you digest and others can help fight diseases. If you live in a completely clean would with 0 bacteria we could not grow.
ReplyDeleteThere is bad and good bacteria. The good bacteria helps you stay healthy by making your immune system stronger. The good bacteria helps fight off diseases which are the bad bacteria. The bad bacteria makes people sick by spreading diseases rapidly like the common cold or the flu. this is how bacteria effect humans and the environment.
ReplyDeleteBacteria are very complex organisms, because some are helpful, and some are detrimental. Detrimental bacteria can affect us by giving us infections, and helpful bacteria can affect us by boosting our immune system and helping us fight illness and diseases.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, when I think of bacteria I think of cartoon amoebas but that's irrelevant. Bacteria can be both harmful and useful. The "bad" bacteria can make you sick but at the same time, "good" bacteria can cure sickness. The "good" bacteria also helps your body digest food.

ReplyDeleteBacteria affects our lives all the time. It can cause illness, and also cure it. It helpfully decomposes food in our body. Bacteria is everywhere, whether you realize it or not. It can be a very good thing, and very bad; there are so many different types of bacteria that impact our lives everyday.
ReplyDeleteBacteria can be divided into two groups. Those that improve our health and those that decline our health. Bacteria that our found in yogurt our good for us and we eat them. Bacteria that gets into our body and gives us a cold is bad for use.
ReplyDeleteThere are two types of bacteria, good and bad. Good bacteria can be found in many items which, for example, is used to help clean up nuclear waste, recover metal from low-grade ores, and degrade some pesticides. Bad bacteria can cause many illnesses such as Streptococcus A. Some symptoms are fever, chills, headache, backache, sometimes abdominal pain and diarrhea.
ReplyDeleteBacteria impacts our individual lives in many ways. As many people have posted, there is helpful bacteria and harmful bacteria. The helpful bacteria in our bodies can usually kill off diseases or illnesses. Some types of helpful bacteria within our economy, are decomposes, which break down substances for us (such as environmental waste). Harmful bacteria that act as pathogens can cause diseases and illnesses such as typhoid fever, pneumonia, syphilis, cholera... Whether helpful or not, bacteria effects our lives daily.
ReplyDeleteBacteria is everywhere. It is the reason for life on Earth, and helps almost everything do what it needs to do. Bacteria is in or on almost everything on Earth. It makes up the atmosphere, it helps our bodies and other animals' bodies function. The bad bacteria that we usually think of is on our minds because it scares us. Thinking that a tiny cell could potentially get us sick or even kill us is scary, that's why we think about bad bacteria more. Good bacteria helps the Earth, and keeps us alive. Without it, we would never have existed.
ReplyDeleteIn our daily lives bacteria is everywhere. Bacteria can be good or bad for our bodies, some bacteria can make you sick and then others are harmless or can help us. Bacteria is very important for the ecological environment because some organisms might need bacteria to live, just like humans. If there wasn't bacteria a lot of things would not be able to react properly or complete the correct tasks.
ReplyDeleteTaylor: Thats funny!!!
Bacteria come in many different forms. These forms can either be good or bad to us. Bacteria can be good because it can help us to (for example) fight a cold. However, bacteria can also be bad, since it can also cause a cold. In terms of ecology, bacteria can help by decomposing dead organisms.
ReplyDeleteBacteria can do both good and bad. We have bacteria in our bodies. To tell the truth only about 1% of bacteria is actually harmful to us. We concentrate on it more as it is harmful to us. We mostly ignore the good bacteria as it seems to be there and it will continue helping us, no matter what. We need the good bacteria in our environment and our bodies to work, even if we don't think about it, as we are so concerned with destroying the bad bacteria to even think about anything else.
ReplyDeleteBacteria can help us and harm us. It give and cure diseases. It also good because it decomposes dead organisms and food in our body.
ReplyDeleteBacteria can be good and bad. Some bacteria helps fight illnesses while other types of bacteria can create illnesses. Without bacteria we would not be able to fight off diseases so in a way with out bacteria we would not be able to live. Yes, bacteria is the cause of many diseases too but in reality there are plenty other reasons why people get fetal diseases. Bacteria, as I mentioned before, is everywhere. Bacteria comes in many forms. It is not visible to the naked eye. In the environment it is most likely to grow in a moist warm area.
ReplyDeleteThere are two different types of bacteria, good and bad. The bad kind can make us sick but we also have bacteria helping our bodies to function. There are also bacterias that we specifically take to become better, like different types of antibiotics. Bacteria can also kill other types of substances that are bad for us, or other types of organisms. So all though a lot of people think of bacteria as a bad thing, actually most bacteria are beneficial to humans.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Beth, in the sense that bacteria is everywhere and it can benefit you or harm you.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with daniel that good bacteria strengthens your immune system. However, bad bacteria can also strengthen your immune system because once you have the bacteria in your body, you are fighting to get rid of it. Finally, once the bacteria is out of your system, you have built an immunity to it (hopefully).
Just like many people pointed out, I agree that bacteria can be either good or bad. Good bacteria in the digestive tract, helps in the digestion of food and minerals and aid in the production of vitamins. Also, good bacteria help fight off illness and diseases. However, there are some bad bacteria which cause illness, though most bacterial viruses are easy to cure with antibiotics.
ReplyDeleteBacteria can be good and bad both at the same time. there is the bacterisa that we benefit from as a species but there is bacteria that can also destroy us at will. bacteria can cause disease but can also help us stay alive like the bacteria that helps us digest food. bacteria is an uncontrollable thing and the only thing that we as humans can do is gain knowledge about the one celled organisms.
ReplyDeleteBacteria are important to our lives because they fight off other bacteria, and keep our bodies going consistently. They re important to decomposing feces and dead plant matter. Without that our forests would be dying.
ReplyDelete
